I don’t think I’ve ever seen any anime, but I’d like to check it out. What would you recommend for an adult to start with?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen any anime, but I’d like to check it out. What would you recommend for an adult to start with?
Also, is most anime for kids?

naruto :]
cowboy bebop
akira
samurai champloo
just my fav’s
joe.
most anime is for teenagers.
but there are some adult anime like Wolf’s Rain, Blood+ or Hellsing.
[Hellsing is the best in my opinion though]
Most anime is NOT for kids
Let’s go for the giblets: death note
allot of anime is for teenagers its not really for ids cause they are mostly based on romance, action, horror. cartoons are more for kids
id check out blood+ but that one has some romance in it
go to animecrazy.net for like 6 billion(not actually) anime shows they have and i think you can search them in categories
No way is most anime for kids. Check out the most awesomest anime of all time Ninja Scroll. Ninjas fighting demons man!! Also Akira is one of the great classics. Princess mononoke, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Vampire Hunter D (the new one especially). There are a lot of good anime movies. And Deathnote is one of the best series I’ve ever seen, animated or live action.
That girl that thumbs down and said that is a real B*tch(insert an I)
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop
Dragonball Z
Akira
Tekkon Kinkreet
Evangelion
And Ghost In the shell are for an older crowd
Plus i’m twenty with a girlfriend an active social life and i really like anime
The first anime I ever saw was Cowboy Bebop, and I was hooked from then on. I strongly recommend it. It also compliments your age range, as it’s a very mature show. (mature as in sophisticated, not sexual)
Other I would STRONLY recommend is Ghost in the Shell, though you’d probably need a degree in philosophy to fully appreciate this one.
Still, you shouldn’t let your age limit your preferences. You should watch any anime that catches your fancy; ratings are irrelevant, as far as I’m concerned.
I truely love anime but it depends what you’re excatly interested in. If you like romance, Fruits Basket is good, *this may be weird but* if your a guy thats gay or your a yaoi fangirl then look into Bocu no Pico Ova 1
Kire Papa
Haru wo daite ita
Papa to kiss in the dark
Gravitation
Sensitive Pornograph
Loveless
Okane ga nai
Sukisho
Junjo Romantica
(ya, im a yaoi fangirl -.-)
action look into naruto *he’s awesome!!!! no yaoi* and umm..i’ll let others answer from there ^^’
Hi!
Anime is not only for kids, in fact you might after you watch a couple (if you watch a couple) you might find some of it to be more for mature audiences.
If you’ve never seen any anime I recommend the following
Code Geass
Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist
Death Note
I hope you enjoy watching them and if you do I can recommend some more
not really, there’s tons of stuff ranging to meet all age groups.
wolf’s rain- ahhhh how I miss this series…
Probably one of the Must See animes, beautiful animation and CG/disignes.
absolutly amazing plot, that was followed up by an even more amazing ending.
Something anyone could love, and I think everyone did- ther’s not many people that have watched and disliked it.
Samurai Champloo was awesome. Good fight sceens, the dub of it was great, and the plot was really entertaining. Very nice length, and I really liked the ending.
Death note was popular with very many people, and ages ranged from just about anywhere. Very dark, thought provoking, and well done. Writters were brilliant, great ending, great charicters, great animation, great CG, and just… Just amazing.
One of the very few mainstream anime that was acually good. (Naruto and Bleach really aren’t anything special, just exceptionally long…)
Hellsing- vampires, guns, and blood.
Trinity Blood- pretty good. Set in the future, where everything’s kinda screwed up. The church rules, and has basicly gone corrupt…
Unfortunatly the original author (of the novel) kidna… died, so the story is left unfinished.
Again, the dub is really good- and there is amazing fights.
Very good, worth the watch, if you’re fine with the “ending” they leave you with.
It basicly just stops….
Cowboy Bebop- I’ve not seen much of this, it’s a vairly old show. From what I did see, it’s very good. Not my thing though, so I can’t say much about it.
Berserk- Hard to stop watching. Amazing show. really, really AMAZING.
terms you might want to keep in mind:
Shounen- lit. boy in english- used to discribe a genera of anime/manga (comic book) that’s targeted for boys
Shojo- lit. girl, targeted for girls. Usually romance stories.
etchi- lit. pervert. Used as a warning to say there’s bits of more mature stuff, and fanservice. (like boobs, nothing ever gets extreamly graphic, but it’s usually worth the warning)
Air Gear is a good example of this.
Hentai- lit. pervert (again…) this is a genera for anime porn. Explisit, and not for underaged. usually doesn’t have much of a plot.
Shounen-ai- lit. boy love. Now, you rememebr shounen being a genera targeted for guys?
I don’t sugest you watch anything that says Shounen-ai in it.
As, it’s about two gay guys. (examples loveless, gravitation)
Also paired with yaoi- this is taken from a few words, has no literal meaning.
but it’s the more…. mature version of shounen ai. Basicly, gay anime porn.
Shojo-ai- lit. girl love. See shounen-ai, and replace the guys with girls.
Oddly, the anime of shojo ai i’ve seen was targeted for girls to watch (while BL (boy love) is for girls)
Yuri is it’s Yaoi.
Just some terms you might want to know, just so you’re vairly safe ^-^;
(see not all anime’s for little kids XD)
It depends. There are a lot of genres in anime. What kind of TV shows and movies and books do you like? Comedy, drama, thriller, horror, fantasy, science fiction, romance?
Off the top of my head, though, I’d say:
For psychological thrillers:
Monster:
Death Note:
For science fiction:
Cowboy Bebop:
Code Geass:
Neon Genesis Evangelion:
Ghost in the Shell:
For fantasy:
Fullmetal Alchemist:
Scrapped Princess:
For college-type humor:
Honey and Clover:
Nodame Cantabile:
For high school humor:
Azumanga Daioh:
For high school drama/comedy/fantasy (I’m really not sure how to classify this one):
Fruits Basket:
For historical romance:
Victorian Romance Emma:
For a World War II animated movie that will make you cry:
Grave of the Fireflies:
For slasher-movie-type horror with a twist:
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (aka “When They Cry”):
For a supernatural anime:
Mushishi:
For strange shows that will make you think:
Kino’s Journey:
Haibane Renmei:
I’ve been linking mostly to Nihon Review’s anime review site, BTW:
It’s a good guide, though take it with a grain of salt. If you go there and sort the anime by rating, then read some of the reviews of anime in the 7-10 range, that should help. There are spoilers, though, as with all reviews.
As to whether most anime is for kids…depends on the show. A lot is definitely not. A lot definitely is. It’s a lot like live action television that way.
Edit: to add Ghost in the Shell and Mushishi, from Snivellus’ and Liz’s suggestions. Those are really good ones, too.
I don’t do anime.
Manga:
Battle Royale
Uzumaki
pokemon
Fullmetal Alchemist is a fantastic series. Code Geass is really good too.

I would say that anime is a broad genre that has content for kids and adults as well. It all depends on the shows you watch.
Some anime is definitely not for kids. Adult themed anime also known as hentia
Depending on the anime, but mostly for teens/young adults. Oh yeah a heads’ up Shojo means romance, usually very funny and commonly kinda girly, but good all the same. Shonen means action, but not strictly, there is some romance, and depending on the anime diffrent amounts of comedy, but always some.
Inuyasha
Bleach (I’m not very fond of it, but you may like it)
Naruto
Yu Yu Hakusho
Death Note
Elfen Lied
Black Cat
Kekkaishi
One Piece (If you watch the dub (english voice acting) Be sure NOT to watch the 4kids version, 4kids SUCKS and any anime fan will agree with me on that)
Gintama (very unique)
Code Geass
Chrno Crusade
Fullmetal Alchemist (Despite the odd title, it EASILY ranks as one of the best animes of all time)
Those are all the animes I think you will like, heres a few more good ones, though they are shojo
Tokyo Mew Mew’
Ouran Higfh School Host Club
Mamotte!! Lolipop (also known as Save me!! Lolipop)
Shugo Chara
and thats about it. One more note, manga is a japenesse novel. Sometimes animes are based off them and vice versa.
